We are Alzheimer’s Society. We are a vital source of support and a powerful force for change for everyone affected by dementia.
What is dementia?
‘Dementia’ describes a group of symptoms that include problems with memory, thinking or language, and changes in mood, emotions, perception and behaviour. Dementia is a progressive disease, which means symptoms may be relatively mild at first, but they get worse over time. There are many types of dementia but Alzheimer’s disease is the most common. The next most common is vascular dementia.

This woman is so selfless in looking after her husband. I hope she has the assistance she so clearly needs. My mother has Parkinson's and LBD but she is 80 this year and now in a care facility. It is tragic that this young man has developed FTD dementia at such a young age and his care has fallen on his wife's shoulders. It is clear she doesn't wish to abandon him in a care home. Awful situation. I hope she and her husband get the support they clearly need.

We really need to increase the funding for research & development for Fronto-temporal dementia (FTD) massively. It is illnesses such as these that really piss me off. We need to go on the OFFENSIVE on this disease.

When it is relatively young dementia it ends up being Fronto-temporal dementia (FTD).. FTD is like being erased from existence.

load of rubbish , because I live in Wales I was told on the phone they could not help . So I cared for my late wife on my own at home until the end. They even told me that Rose could not have attendance allowance though a local charity got it for her. Perhaps if I was English it might have been different. This so called charity is taking your money under false pretences

This advert really does sum up the journey of people affected by dementia and their families. It may be hard to watch and you can bury your head in the sand but it is the experience many families have to go through in the final years. My Mum died on 21 May after suffering from dementia for 4 years at the same time as lymphoma. Dementia has far more of an impact on her quality of life, than the lymphoma which has multiple regimens of highly effective treatments. Thats why its so important that we invest in research to make early diagnosis and effective treatments treatments available.

Having lost both my parents to Dementia I can attest that this can be how it feels watching a loved one decline. But that doesn’t make it the right content for an advertising campaign. I am so glad I never had to watch this ad with my parents. Reading comments here from dementia sufferers breaks my heart. It makes me very sad to think this is what you spend my monthly donation on. This ad was cleared despite complaints because AS are considered the expert on the subject. So in effect you have been allowed to mark your own homework. Please use that power very carefully.

I've never seen this commercial, I'm not even from the UK but I picked up on the traction it got. The fact is, this world is going to shit. We're nurturing this culture that promotes sugarcoating everything, digging your head into the sand and putting so much emphasis on people being offended. We are starting to let personal emotions dictate how entire societies evolve. And it's bad.

Having lost my Mum to Alzheimers, I know the pain was real when she didn't know who I was in the last year of her life anymore it was heartbreaking. Whilst some may find this advert difficult to stomach, I would say the advert is a fair representation of Alzheimers. It is the most awful disease not only for the person with the symptoms but for the loved ones too. ❤️

I would try a carnivore diet if this were my husband. Carnivore is not an expensive diet, it's basically ground meat, eggs, chicken, bacon, fish, butter. It is an elimination diet because it is believed that food could be the cause and no one reacts to a carnivore diet. Check out Dr. Ken Berry. You'll find plenty of other doctors who recommend it.

It might well be so but there is little evidence to support this supposition. I think the focus should be more on not eating processed foods, nor a diet high in carbs and sugar. Lay off the pies, pizzas, bread, potatoes, starch, sugar, etc all the junk.

This commercial was brought to my attention on a caregiver’s support platform where we encourage each other to LIVE LIFE to its fullest with your Dementia Loved One. And we give them tools to help them in this difficult season of life. Many were saying how they hated this commercial. They try to get it turned off before their loved ones see it because if not, they sit there and weep. At the very least- please put a black box warning to give caregivers time to turn the channel. Our loved ones don’t need to have more depression than they do. It would be like a commercial about cancer or heart disease and saying you are dying again and again and again. Our goal is to give them joy again and again and again. Please rethink how you can represent Dementia and how there are still moments of laughter and fun. Even training or educational videos should leave you filled with hope. Not hopelessness. Blessings on this complicated and joyous journey as you walk them Home with dignity. 🙏🏻💗
